Merhay started tennis at age 3 in Ethiopia. Settled in Canada at 12, he played competitively in sport study until the age of 17. He was able to begin to bequeath his passion for tennis and his experiences by giving his first lesson at 16 years old. Being a course facilitator for Tennis Canada, Merhay is staying ahead with the latest training methods and he likes to integrate them into his teaching style, especially for the development of the next generation of tennis players.
